On Lavapolis

Lavapolis, an island as large as Malta, deeper than any other island in the Mediterranean rift between the coast of Crete, Sicily and the Libyan coast, has been inhabited and visited by people who – like Friday, for example – expose themselves deliberately a social experiment. In the video below, some of the residents tell us about the island.

The internet platform and the series of performances under the title Friday in Venice are based on the story about the fictional island Lavapolis. The book LAVAPOLIS by Michael Schindhelm (to be published in summer 2014; German version by Matthes & Seitz, in English by Sternberg Press) takes a look at an island which does not (yet) exist, and reports on an experimental exchange of ideas related to the question: What is actually possible?
