“The Chinese Lives of Uli Sigg” – Swiss Premiere in Zurich
On February 9, the documentary film about the Swiss entrepreneur, diplomat and art collector Uli Sigg will have its Swiss premiere in Zurich. The theatrical release in Switzerland is scheduled for February 18.
Manager of Schindler, a provider of elevators and escalators, Sigg created the first joint venture between a Western company and the communist government in the People’s Republic of China in 1979. Managing the enterprise for 12 years, Sigg had a significant impact on the economic strategy of post-Mao China. Subsequently, as a Swiss ambassador in Beijing, Sigg strongly influenced diplomatic affairs between China and the West. Furthermore, he compiled a comprehensive collection of Chinese contemporary art; a collection that mirrors the country’s rapid modernization. The majority of this collection will be transferred to Hong Kong’s M+ museum, due to open in 2019.
