The German Museum of Technology will present the special exhibition “Project Lightspeed – With mRNA Technology to the Corona Vaccine” from 23 September 2022.

The special exhibition “Project Lightspeed – With mRNA Technology to the Corona Vaccine” shows the development of the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine, which was implemented in record time. It is based on the mRNA technology developed by BioNTech over decades. Via an interactive website and the exhibition in the museum, the hybrid format provides insights into the work on the messenger molecule mRNA, which has long been underestimated in research. “Project Lightspeed” explains why this technology could revolutionise medicine. The basis of the exhibition is film material by director Michael Schindhelm, who interviewed Ugur Sahin, Özlem Türeci and their team. Decisive milestones in the fight against COVID-19 and the potential of mRNA become clear in the video sequences. The exhibition also features a unique selection of exhibits from BioNTech.

Michael Schindhelm was awarded the Herbert Quandt Media Prize 2022 for his documentary “At the Speed of Light to Vaccines – The BioNTech Project” (Arte). The film footage serves as the basis for the exhibition in the German Museum of Technology.
